Volunteer as a Museum Guide

Adelaide Holocaust Museum (AHMSEC) are seeking Expressions of Interest for the position of volunteer Museum Guides, Education. We welcome applications from all people.


Interviews will take place from 1 February 2021 and applications close Tuesday 9 February.

Position Overview

As a Museum Guide, Education you will support our inaugural Education Program, beginning on 2 March 2021, by providing guided tours of the Museum’s permanent and temporary exhibitions to school student groups in years 8 to 12. Students may be visiting the Museum as part of their studies in a variety of school subjects, including English, Visual Arts, History, Politics, Drama or Psychology.

To be a Museum Guide, Education at AHMSEC, you will need to have an enthusiasm for learning; be professional and friendly; and enjoy working with young people. Prior experience guiding or teaching is not necessary. You also do not have to be a history buff or have a personal connection to the Holocaust.

As a Museum Guide, Education you will enjoy certain benefits and privileges as part of your appointment.


Ongoing Commitment and Training

You will need to be available for full-day training on Monday 15 February and Monday 22 February, commit to further private study and be available from 2 March at least one morning per week on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday to conduct guided tours during Term 1, 2021. Minimum commitment be reviewed and will likely be reduced to one morning per fortnight or month from Term 2, 2021.


Position Requirements

All AHMSEC staff and volunteers require a Working with Children Check. This is also a legal requirement when working or volunteering with young people under the age of 18 years of age. If you do not have one, we can initiate this for you at no cost. Please let us know immediately if you require a new Working with Children Check.
